sound memory problems

Hey does any one know whats going on with my mpc 2000xl the sound memory has beeen maxed too 32mb but every now n then when i start it up it shows only 18mb but this goes in my favour as when it does start up in 32mb after a few minutes the sounds loaded start to crackle and then get badly distorted but when i boot up and it shows only 18mb memory i dont have this problem.

It' simple. The stock 2kxl comes with 2MB ram installed on board, which is cancelled when 2x16 MB expansion RAM chips are put in.

Your's def has one of the two expansion chips faulty, that's why it crackles samples now and then and it shows 18 MB installed (16 from expansion + 2 stock).

Go on ebay and pick another set of 32MB RAM. They are cheap and you should never have problems again in the future.

try SHIFT+5,your in the trim screen....than press SHIFT+F1.....there`s an option to check the memory.maybe check if every memory stick is seated properly...

ok great helpfull quick responces good right ive opened the mpc up and looked at the ram should there be two ram sticks there as there is only 1 i did a memory test it reads 16mwords ive done a test its fine shouldnt it b 32mwords? so looks like i might just have 16mb installed and the mpc sometimes thinks i have 32mb???

if 32 MB is installed there have to be 2 sticks.each 16 MB.2MB built in RAM gets ignored...
I don`t know what this MWords thing really is...I got 32 mb and it always shows up 16 MWords.but works fine and shows up 32 installed.
how your mpc got confused about the installed RAM,I don`t know.....

FYI: A word is the amount of memory a cpu can access in a one go. The MPC has a 16 bit cpu so a word in the MPC is 16 bits, which is the same as 2 bytes. So 16 MWords is the same as 32MBytes
