Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hi everybody!

Two months ago, I've moved my mpc 2000xl by train in a flycase and on my arrival I've noticed a problem.

When I play drum samples through a program, those who got high frequencies (hi hat, open hat), come filtered (sounds like 70%) aproximately 3 times on 10. It happens when I play on the pads and also when I play my sequences.

The problem doesn't appears when I play the same sample on "Trim".

I've also realised that I can not ear this problem when I connect my headphones on the mpc, on my DJ mixer or when I connect monitoring phones directly on the mpc's stereo outs.

I've been talking with some friends but nobody is specialised in mpc stuff.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, at home it's through a mixer (numark m2) and an old power amplifier (toshiba SA 320l). It also happened at a friend house through a mixer (don't remember wich one) and a presonus fire studio.

what cable are you using to get sound out of the mpc and into the mixer? and are you using two mono channels when you do this?

edit: i just realised you said it never happens in the trim screen. if that's really the case, then it seems like it has to be due to the program settings.

are you sure you haven't accidentally set a velocity->filter parameter?

It's not because of the settings. I've initialised all the parameters.

My supposition is :

The problem appears when the signal road is long (more than one machine between the mpc and the phones). So it probably means that the component wich gives power to the signal or the component wich equalize the signal is damage.

I always sample in stereo. Honestly it makes me feel like a component is damage... I've been using this machine with this set up for many years and since this train travel, the problem appeared.

It's because I'm going on a new set up (audio interface, computer, monitoring phones...) that i want to work on something clean and fresh. My mpc will still be the main ingredient of my system and that's why I wanna fix it.

I'd like to find someone who could recognise this problem to know what I have to do... install a new operating system or change a component (wich one?)... If I give it to an mpc assitance, those guys will make me pay a fortune probably just for a component that cost 1 euro and some tools.

Have you disassembled and reassembled the mpc?

It makes more sense to actually look inside your MPC to see if anything seems damaged, then with the information you obtained you then ask questions.

Richie is absolutely right. Sometimes you can spot em visually. Had a few mixers come in for service this morning. This view is under a microscope, but as you can see, defiantly do some visual inspection. This transistor took out the left side on a RCA output. It's a .49 cent part. Don't worry, parts in there won't need a microscope to inspect (for the most part)

Just a good example and good timing.

Thank you guys! I really appreciate your help. I've open it by the top yesterday to have a quick view and chase some dust. Because I don't have the knowledge to open the rest, and some stress about this situation, i didn't open more. What I saw looked fine but there is many more parts to inspect for sure.

When I closed it, I did a test and the problem is still here. But also the left out has losted the half of it's power... I've open it few times like this without any bad surprises, but this time... I don't know. I really don't know what to do... I have an appointement monday for it.

Hey Guys!

I've seen the technician yesterday. Apparently the problem doesn't come from the machine. I've change my system and the problem is not coming. So I still don't no why it was eardable on 2 diferent sound systems or why it was present on the program and not on the trim menu...

I'm not that satified cause I always prefer to know why, but as long as my sound comes clean I don't really care.

Thank you all for your time and your answers.

Wish you the best.
