Different people want different prices, mcd can accept many different cards.

Where a cf drive can only accept a cf card.

maid in china stuff, you'll have to ask the suppliers what's up with the stuff if your interested.

Me, I know for a FACT that psism is good to go, I've sent alot of people to that site and everyone has been happy
with it as far as I know.

The actual choice is on you though.

This one is IDE, not hot swappable.

F… Cardreader problem
I´m also locking for a CF-cardreader for my good old 2000XL. In Germany, we have Conrad shop for electronic stuff. So I bought this device:

http://www.conrad.de/ce/de/product/9748 ... AREA_17130

But it doesn´t work! One time, the MPC found the card after booting, I saved a few files on a small 32MB CF-Card, the MPC read them back. But after unplug the card and reboot the MPC, it never worked again. I get some "data read error" messages. After the next boot, the MPC found the card, then again not and so on...

I wonder, if the black version PSI Model: IIC-B (black)

http://www.psism.com/psiiic.htm

will run, because it looks exactly the same as the Conrad device….
any ideas? (after reading a lot in the www, I know about "hot swappable", ATAPI/IDE ect. - the conrad device is not hot swappable).

i'm from germany, too :D, oder sollte ich besser sagen: ich bin auch aus deutschland :D.

whatever.

i asked akaipro if they have original mcd drives in stock maybe, and they said i should ask VST.

i askes vst and they said, the haven't got the original mcd drives, but a cf reader which is hot-swappable like the original mcd drive (they haven't it in their online shop, just when u ask via email), with the only difference that it just can read compact flash, not more cards like sd or mmc. cost: 249,95$ + shipping to germany around 30$.

i think i will purchase one. better to pay more for 1 reader which works then buy 10 readers and they dont work.

$249 USD is a ridiculous price and I wouldn't pay for that. That's ALOT of money for such a small device.
It's in high demand and that why people wanna charge that much I think.

update:
now it works! the mistake was: I used the wrong CF-card (very old one with only 8MB!).
Yesterday I tested a SanDisk 256MB Card - and it works :D
But I have to do a "longtime-test" - but it looks good.
19,95 € at Conrad Shop in germany!
Note: it´s not hot-swappable! First, you have to save your work on the MPC, then switch the mpc off before you pull the CF-card out of the reader.

I´m searhing a card reader too !! In Spain is very little information about this !

My questions is, if I buy this card reader

http://www.psism.com/psiiic.htm

What accessories I need to install?
and also, if you do not need any software or anything else, to work with Hot-Swappable.

I'm reading a lot of your comments, and I still had these questions ... sometimes from here is a little language problem.

Thanks and I hope your help ...

you have a great forum!

Yo soy mejicano, seo poco espanol,
desculpa me si no entiendes.

Translation:
I am mexican, so I know a little spanish, forgive me if Im difficult to understand.
Your gonna need to install OS1.20 first, you can find it at AkaiPro.com. You install it wth a Floppy Disk(the plastic ones)

Then it should be pretty easy, but if its a foreign machine(not USA specs) I think your gonna need a 44pin to 40 pin converter.
It wont be hot swappable, but it will work with cards up to 2 Gigs.

Please, anybody correct me if im wrong, I dont have one installed on my machine
