"scsi not ready"

hey guys, im really stuck.. i actually bought a z100s2 scsi drive for my mpc 2000 , and i also purchased pre-programmed zip disks from ebay..
when i go to install the scsi zip drive, it is giving me "scsi is not ready" it only has 2 channels or w.e .. 5 and 6. and i tried both and still get the same thing. im trying to figure out why it is giving me this because the manual doesnt explain much and im LOST..
any one have any idea how i can fix this?

Sounds like either the Zip drive is bad or your MPC2000 has a blown SCSI fuse. Make sure that you set both switches on the back of the Zip drive DOWN (never run the Zip drive on SCSI ID 6, as that is what the MPC uses and you'll have a conflict). Make sure that you power up the zip drive before you power up your PC. Make sure that you have a zip disk in the drive before you attempt to select SCSI ID 5 on your MPC.

If you do these things and still get the "not ready" message, then it's one of the two things I mentioned above. Contact me directly and I'll be glad to help you troubleshoot further.

Got my MPC a few weeks ago, and finally got a Iomega Zip drive scsi this week. Having the same problem. Let me know of you get this fixed, also, how can you tell if the scsi fuse is blown on your MPC ? and how does one replace something like this ?

not sure if this is related with what I had problems with when I used zip. But I would always have to go into load mode on the mpc, eject the zip drive, put it back in, and wait for the load sound (on the zip drive) to stop. It only is a short moment. Then I could push load again, and it would work. Could try it.

i had the same problem but i went to try to formatt the zip an ejected it at the same time before it could say "scsi not ready" and it worked after that.

i thought i had this "problem" years ago when i had an external zip

...didnt use my akai for a week because of it. then went back just to analyze the problem and realized i needed a disk in the drive for it to read... duh! totally thought i had a broken mpc..

this could be counter productive to mention but anyway if you have it in load mode without a disk inserted it will keep saying 'scsi not ready.' once you put a disk in then turn the jog wheel to the right it should find the disk. for external zip i used -5, but ive heard about the same problem and easy fixes when people have used both scsi-5 and -6.
