Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By Jare Wed May 18, 2016 9:12 am
I got an old external scsi cd-drive which I would like to turn into external cf/sd drive and use it with my mpc2000 classic. It has 50pin ribbon cable inside, can I just use it with this scsi2sd thing as external sd card drive? https://www.itead.cc/scsi2sd.html

Or can I connect startech compact flash drive (40pin ide) in it? Does it need somekind of scsi-ide adaptor? I found some acard adaptor from ebay but it's too expensive...

Thanks in advance! :worthy:

I could not get the scsi2sd board to work with my mpc2000. I do not think it is compatible with the mpc2000.

With a 40 pin ide card reader, you will need a scsi-ide adaptor to connect to the case 50 pin connectors and yes they are expensive. And it will be no hot-swap which means you must leave cf card in drive when it is on. Having a case to put it all in is a good first step for an external drive to connect to the mpc2000. Not sure what your budget is but if you want a card reader you will have to spend some money. If you want hot-swap, then you will have to spend a little more money.

Thanks for the info! I guess I'm out of luck then.. Those adaptor prices are way out of my range so I think I'll stick with zip's and floppies for now.

You should consider buying an MO drive. They're more reliable than Zip drives and you can find them for cheap every once in a while on ebay. MO disks are cheap too if you keep an eye out for them.

The newer SCSI2SD v6.02 card is out... http://www.codesrc.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=SCSI2SD

- Full-Size SD slot. This makes it much easier to develop faceplates for external access. I am currently prototyping a matching 3.5" bracket with faceplate.
- A floppy-style berg power connector is used instead of the traditional Molex plug. This reduces the width of the device, simplifying 3.5" bracket production. Most systems can self-power the board and don't need a separate power cable anyway.
- Better performance. The hardware supports synchronous transfers at 10MB/s.
- Access to the data via USB. The SCSI2SD drives will appear when connected to a PC via USB. This is limited to around 1.2MB/s (USB FS speeds).
- Superior noise resistance to deal with poor termination and poor cabling.
- Integrated terminator, now enabled via software configuration

Initial BETA firmware limitations:
- No hot-swap support
- Inconsistent performance due to immature firmware. The boards may not perform any better than the V5 boards until the software is improved to make use of the faster hardware.
- Cost and supply limitations. I only have a small number (50) of V6 boards available in the first batch, and priced at $125 AUD.

Hey,
I decided to do the same mod to my 2000 but I'm having a little problem. After I soldered the wires to the motherboard and connected to the terminal my mpc doesn't want to boot. What happens is the power supply keeps turning itself off an on in sync with the screen. I've had this problem with a PC build and remedied it by properly grounding the motherboard to the case. I don't see what the problem could be. Thanks

Basically sold out in an hour. I would've bought 2 but I'm not paying 60 dollars to ship 2 of them to Canada.

One person bought 32 of them.

Hey guys.

OK, here's the deal.

I want to know if it's possible to build a CF card reader to work with my 2000XL, using the SCSI port.

I have a couple of ZIP 100 drive cases which I'm happy to sacrifice to host the CF card reader unit. (I found an Addonics CF reader which I want to install in the Zip casing and use as an external unit)

As I still have TONNES of samples and song/sequences on floppy, I want to be able to transfer them to CF without removing my floppy unit.

Any advice, including videos or diagrams are greatly welcomed.

Uncle.

yes it is possible to build your own card reader if you can find the right components and get it to work with your sampler.

-or-

for anyone interested. . .

you can find some microtech pcd-47b cf card units available at http://www.mpcstoragesolution.com

I bought one of these scsi cf card readers some time ago and this model works perfectly.

Thank you in advance for the answer greetings!

Having difficult time understanding your post.

I think you mean 1.14 operating system.

Make sure you update operating system per pg 169 of the mpc2000xl operator manual. If you do not have manual, you can download from http://www.mpcstoragesolution.com.

Do you have picture of SCSI card reader to see if it is compatible with mpc2000xl?

IDE is not hotswap.

ATAPI is hotswap.
