Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hey all,

It's been a minute since I've been here.

I'm dealing with a situation right now, where I'm getting a very faint signal through my headphones while my turntable is connected into the MP's record inputs.

I just picked up the Audio Technica LP-120, which has its own built in preamp...

Here is how I have it connected:

Internal male phono jacks ---> female to female coupler ----> male RCAS to male TS'S

All cables, along with the coupler is new... Ive even tried using the TS adapters instead of a coupler... I'm using the stock cartridge that came with the LP120.

Line input is engaged on the TT...

Main volume and Rec. volume is up on the MP...

I'm not sure how else to troubleshoot this.

Hoping someone chimes in, I appreciate it.

Ground hum. 50/60hz?

Ferrite cores around audio cables to minimize or trap emi/rf?

Lamp, long time no talk. Hope all is well brother.

I'm actually not getting a ground hum, just very low volume.

I'm getting a strong signal/volume when I connect my LP120 to my
audio interface, just not at all with the MP.

Dumb question, but am I supposed to route the LP120 to a
separate amplification system before it reaches the MP??

This all started because my 16 levels key wasn't working... so I bought some
tact switches and soldered on a new one... but I think I read something that
you said on here somewhere that samples need to be loaded in order to
activate the 16 levels key from the main menu.

This is a mess... I hope to get this machine working one day... :Sigh:

Hey wuddup man. Long time for real.

Some things I'd check.

Switchable phono<-> preamp. Is the switch on preamp?

Rca to 1/8 mono (2metal) adapetrs plugged in all the way?

Haha, I'm back though... just invested in getting my 8 outs expansion card, so
my time is going toward this MP before I find myself really busy again at school.

Lets see... I made sure that the connection points are tight, regarding the wires
and adapters/coupling....

I've already switched the back of the turntable to LINE input... phono input doesn't work... but thats because the phono setting bypasses the phono preamp.

But Lamp... I was actually reading this...

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=176998

I made that mistake, like quite a few others and plugged the cable of the 8 out expansion card (backwards) or upside down... well you know, and it smoked a bit... and I turned my MP off right away.

Could this broken resistor be a cause for me not being able to hear the appropriate signal being fed into the MP from the turntable?

awnytime you smell/see smoke it's never good. Overall things may still work but sooner or later you WILL need a feature that needed that burned cap/resistor.

I can completely agree with you on that; however, I tried looking on the main motherboard and practically all of the pcbs, and I couldn't find any burned caps
or resistors...

I think I might have to do it again with a magnifying glass.

It should be very obvious to spot a burned cap/resistor, right?

According to this forum link that I posted :
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=176998

They said that its a specific resistor that could have burned out...

Do you think that might be the case?

Also, I'm not sure which one it is... would you happen to have a pic
or location of it so I could pinpoint it down for a 2kxl?

Not necessarily. If you saw smoke, chances are you fried the resistor, it won't always look fried but one color band might be off etc.

Wal, thank you brother... a little electrical engineering 101, I needed that. I've been chiming in on the other thread about it being a possibility that I may have done this while connecting my 8 outs cable incorrectly.

I'm thinking that I may have spotted the common resistor that is associated with
the electrical smoke from the misconnection of the 8 outs board...

Would this be it?

And if this is "it" can this resistor also be responsible for restricting the signal of my record input of my MP, from your knowledge?

I am most likely going to replace this resistor regardless, and I'll find out from there... but just thought I'd ask while you're here.

Or could it be something else that is causing my record input signal/volume to be extremely low?

My 16 levels key isn't working either from the main menu, but it works when typing to add a "space" character when naming things... and I replaced the tact switch...

I saw a similar post, and they solved their problem by figuring out that it was their pads. However... I have stock pads, not fat pads... so I'm thinking that this resister could be the culprit of that too. (If I'm not mistaken)

It won't always look.... damn, he answered already, lol.

But yeah, you may see a colored band looking rough or worn out.

Sound is fully functional again... and so is my 16 levels! I just replaced that resistor... I made that my mission today and executed.

I appreciate all of your help Lamp and Wal! :-D

Did you happen to take detailed pictures? If so please post em so if others
run into this problem they can find your solution.
