Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

hi everyone...
first post in the forum.
long time mpc user,
im thinking of changing from internal zip 100
to non hot swapable card reader.
like this:
https://www.amazon.de/StarTech-com-Lauf ... 9QQP0?th=1

questions:
i hooked up today my old external iomega zip via scsi,
and was able to load programs and sounds via the scsi port.
(i last used it nearly ten years ago..
when i install the card reader is it possible to load programs via the scsi zips and transfer them on to the cf card?

also i guess i need the OS 1.20 , or can i stay with my current version 1.14.
that brings me to the question on how to bring the 1.20 version
to my mpc?
i have still the old floppy drive with cables, so do i need to reconnect it to my mpc
and doin the update from floppy, before installing the card reader?

also, i read somewhere i cannot do partitions any more with Os 1.20?
( i like to have the program and sequences plus the sounds in one folder fe.)

zips worked flawlessly over 15 years, im still not sure to do the cardreader update.

thanx and greetz from berlin...

Don't bother with the Startech.

In 2023 we have a lot of better options with SCSI, find yourself a Zulu SCSI, SCSI2SD or BlueSCSI.

They're hotswappable and cost almost the same price as the Startech.

You won't have to update anything, just install any of the SCSI devices I mentioned, load your beats off of the zip and save them to the other SCSI device.

thanx for the infos...
i guess i have to build a case for the scsi cards u mentioned,
as i don t really get how they fit in the mpc
(how to install, having the card insert outside available) ??
also they cost as three times more than the card reader here in europe .
but i will consider it as an option.
Edit:::
that zulu "MINI" scsi look interesting as they dont need any installment, just plug it
in at the scsi port of the mpc.
https://studio-services.de/produkt/zulu ... 2040-mini/

i m wondering how that "normal "zulu card is installed, as its a blank card without any housing and
cables??

There are a lot of options once you use the google search engine mate.

You don't have to build a case, you could buy the internal one with the bracket and install it in to your XL.

If you want to use the one you pictured, then you'd just use the same cable you have for your zip drive. The HD25 to DB25.

You install a micro sd into the Zulu, format it and then be a cool dude.

The cool thing is that the Zulu SCSI can emulate multiple hard drives, so the XL will see individual drives from SCSI ID 0 all the way to 7 (but I think the XL can only handle 6 in total, still great)

Also, here is the direct link of the manufacturer : https://store.rabbitholecomputing.com/Z ... 0-db25.htm

I'm not sure if it's cheaper for you to order from the German link vs ordering from the link I sent after shipping but its worth looking into.

did nt found any specific info in the net..
only saw a video that it works with the mpc 2000.
would like to avoide an additional usb power plug.

it works with the mpc 2000xl without any usb adapter..

just fyi/who wants to know in the future...

If the SCSI fuse on your XL is functioning fine, you won't need the adapter.

The usb power adapter is only for when machines cannot get SCSI power from the bus, in order to terminate the connection.

hey i got the zulu scsi card installed now. (the internal one on the scsi port of the mpc)
works fine so far with 2 hd s (1,8 gb) and 3 cd . iso files(full of mpc sounds from the shop i bought the card)
i also was managing to transfer my old sequences and programs from my old atapi zip drive
to the sd card on the mpc, plus creating subfolders on the hd drives as it was on my old zips.

im still on os 1.14,
so i was wondering if i should upgrade to os 1.20
as im not sure what are the advantages to 1.14. ?
is it still possible to create subfolders on the drives (with the mpc)
as with os 1.14.?
is 1.20 better because it can read larger files (the hd.iso) than 1 gb?

if i should upgrade can i place the MPC.bin file on the sd card,
or should i use the old floppy drive?

thanx....

Leave it alone, everything you have is working the way you like it. I would not bother changing anything as there is no advantage to you.

never touch a running system...:)
was only curious if os1.20 would be a better way to deal with larger hd.iso files.

hd.iso has no bearing on what version the MPC is running.

hd.iso is specific to the SCSI emulator, not the MPC.

The only reason why anyone would need to upgrade to 1.20 is for ATAPI support, you have a SCSI card reader which has nothing to do with ATAPI.
