Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By york830 Mon May 05, 2003 9:12 pm
I installed the program and set sounds to the pads fine, but when it's time to use it the mp gives a read file error.. Has anyone have this problem? I formatted the disk both on the pc and the mp still doesn't work ..

Thanks in advance

I use XP and MPC Editor and have not had any problems.

You might try emailing the author:
support `at` midicase.com

Be sure to tell all the details: format, directory structures, model MPC, If the snd or wav file can load, etc.

Hm, i think i've seen this before on this forum. I suspect it has something to do with XP partiotions on NTFS disks. The easy solution is to NEVER format your disks with XP. Try using someone's W98 pc to reformat your disks, and it should work.

No, the problem with XP is that it just wont read MPC formatted disks because of the NTFS file system.

It's fine if you just want to format a disk within XP to a FAT format (the only formatting option available for zips and floppies. These read fine on an MPC.

If you really need to read MPC formatted disk in XP, you need to install XP on a FAT32 partition, or use Partition Magic to convert your existing NTFS to FAT32 (backup first!).

"FAT format ...the only formatting option available for zips and floppies"

I do not have XP or Win2k, but from what I understand, you can actually format a Zip as FAT32 and is actually the default on certain machines. I am not sure what the setup is on these particular machines. Reformatting the Zip as FAT(16) takes care of the problem of the MPC reading the disk.
