Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
ByUno Me Sun Jun 22, 2003 2:10 pm
I got a mpc2000 with scsci cdrom & zipdrive.
When i use an E-Lab demo cdrom i can perfectly read them on mpc .
When i try to read my burned cdroms i cant read them.
I burned everything to cdrom as *.wav, i even tried *.snd
but i always get the message SCSI not ready
Type it says TYPE= ?????
What could be the problem ?

The MPC2000 is not reading the format of the CD. I am not sure if the MPC 2000 is actually capable of ready CDs burned in PC format - the MPC2000XL is fine with both Joliet and ISO9660 format, but many people here have had problems with the standard MPC2000 reading CDs. Try ISO9660 format, if not, then you need to burn in Akai format which involves making an image of an Akai formatted SCSI drive using PC software called DISK2FILE which can them be burned to CD. Not done it myself, but many people have. But you'll need a SCSI card in your PC and a SCSI drive like a zip or a hard drive.

thanx for your help.
One last question before i go to the shop, when i buy an USB Zip drive for my pc en store all my wavs on it , will i be able to read that same zipdisk using my scsi zipdrive? ( wich is connected to my MPC)
or is it necessary to buy a SCSI one for my pc ?
thanx

The disk wont know the difference, so you'll be fine. Just make sure you use PC formatted discs and not MPC formatted if you use Windows XP, as XP doesn't read MPC formatted disks by default.
