Hi. I have an internal 100mb zip drive. When i try to store say more than 6 pgms and lots of seq files it says file directory full, despite there still being space on the disk. This limits me to storing only certain files onto a zip disk. Is this just the way the storage works on zip drives? Would connecting a 250mb zip drive allow me to store more programs and seq files without this message being displayed. Thanks, Ben

You should be allowed to save ANY type of file to the zip disk, so make sure you aren't really going over your 100mb capacity.

Sorry. I can save any type of file but when i have many 4-6mb pgms (4-6) it says file directory full and when i look at the free space on the disk there is usually 74mb free. It makes me wonder why this is happening. Can you explain. Would getting a 250mb zip be any better? Thanks

Nope. But getting a card reader would help immensely.

Is your Zip disk partitioned?

MPC2000/2000XL machines are limited to storing 512 files within the ROOT directory of a connected storage drive. ( regardless of the storage device type )

If you're using a 2000XL then create folders for each project to get around the ROOT directory limits.

Rohan.

That's what I do, never had a problem.

You can format a ZIP into partitions and you can save up to 512 files on each partition.

So depending on how much space you need, format into the partitions you want.
like 2 partitions (A and B) will leave about 50MB on each partiotion, 3 partitions leave 33MB, 4 partitions about 25MB and so on.

What I do is simple. I format many zips ZIPs with different number of partitions. I got a zip with 10 partitions, one with 4 one with 3 and depending on how big is each track or how big it will be at the end i save it on one partition.
So I have one song on each partition. That helps me organize.
The MPC2k can have 32mb max so having each partition for a song, I will never have a zip with only 2 partitions.
A zip with 3 partitions can hold 3 songs with all the memory used by samples.

Hope it works for you.

MPC 2k classic : use partitions
MPC2kXL: use directories
Saving files in directories: read the manual.
