I want to start using the digital out on my MPC 1K to connect to my computer where I do most of my sample editing. What I've been doing is using the USB cable to transfer WAV files between my comp and MPC but that's incredibly slow going.

I've tried using the analog I/O through my Apogee Duet and that works pretty well going one way but I find two or more passes through the MPC's converters suck a lot of life out of my samples.

I know I have a TOSLINK port in my laptop. Is there a way to get two-way digital communication between my devices so I can send samples back and forth? I haven't found anything recent in here. There was this thing by M-Audio called the CO2 that did what I'm looking for but it's been discontinued. Are there any more options out there for me without having to buy another audio interface?

With a little digging through the results, you will find those little plastic boxes that go either optical to coax, or coax to optical.

Finding cheap versions of those might be the cheapest way.

For example...

Simultaneous bi-directional converters might be a little harder to find, and more expensive, maybe the Hosa ODL-276.

Ah, I see. The Hosa looks more like what I had in mind. Pretty robust. But those plastic ones are really inexpensive. I wonder if they're reliable.

In case you are not aware, you might also need Toslink to mini-Toslink cables, to connect the full size Toslink port on the convertor box(es) to the mini-Toslink connectors on your MacBook.
