I think the OP-1 has been out for a while now. What's nice is they make a point of talking about the industrial grade components and construction, and sonically it is anything but toy-like. The OS is also supposed to be incredible, and the 4 track 'tape' mode is apparently unlike anything else out there in software or hardware. Still pricey though.

Someone else posted a teaser vid of their upcoming products. I assume these will be announced at Namm.

It's a very polarizing device. Lots of people for, lots against. Personally, I would buy one if I could find it being sold through Amazon...

Yes, this unit has been out for a couple of years, but I think they finally started producing them in larger numbers now. Definitely not a toy. It's built like a tank. It's pricey, but if you like to make music in a singular box...and I know most of here do, its awesome. It has a nice infinite step sequencer (with some other types like the Tambola...fun), a 4 track tape recorder, drums, fx, sampling and a decent synth engine with an improved LFO too. Oh yeah, and it has radio which you can sample directly from.

Here is a picture of mine...

They recently updated the OS with some nice features, which I covered on my blog...

I think it looks (aesthetically) amazing! I saw a really in depth review via Synthwhores or whatever that website is called. Completely escapes me. But it was about 25 minutes long and really went into good detail.

They have an interesting way of showing the FX on the screen with patterns and there was a boxer for compression (punch har har).

It also has different synth engines or something, I really can't remember. But I do remember being impressed that it all came in that tiny little thing. I mean it's literally smaller than a Korg Nanopad! Price is high, but it's a small company afterall and for them to cram as much as they have into it is impressive!

I only wish Akai were doing things like this :(

not to bring this thread back from the dead but I just got back into making beats after a 2-3 year hiatus and picked up one of these and its quite possibly the most refreshing piece of gear i picked up since i got the mpc 1k back in 04 or so.

as switch18 above noted, its more or less a self contained box. i'm still thinking of picking up an mpc (either a 1k or a 500 or a studio if it ever comes out) for drum and long sample sequencing but most of the work and sounds will now be from the op-1.

DOPE.!

Nice to know. I just snagged one on Ebay for $500 and change after selling a boombox that I bought at a yard sale. Do you make hip hop music with it? I'm planning to use mine as a portable companion/controller to my Ipad. I also found out that a recent update has Ableton controller templates.
