Here is a video of an older Roland VS with Reaper...
The roland VS 2000 has usb. The VS2480 has the most options and worth getting the adapters that connect to computers like the roland dif-at and the RPC connectors. There are others as well. The faders can be used to control the faders in your DAW and vice versa.
VS1880 and VS1824's are all over the place. Last night one was on ebay for $130. Just know that the roland machines have recording options. If you decide to use linear PCM no compression then usually you have less tracks. If you use the compression then you have the full range of tracks. Many people use the compression and like it. It sounds good enough for a pro recording. If you have fancy hardware compressors / limiters thenyou would not want to mix and match, you would rather have that compressor come into your recorder clean.
I record without their compression. The VS 1824 and 1880 only have 8 tracks if you record without compression. The VS2000 is the only one that does not have roland compression. It is just linear PCM.
Yamaha made a great recorder as well with lots of options.
Cheers,
Ian
