Yes I have tested both 144pin and 168pin memory
the stuff i got working in there is PC100 SD 144pin 64MB module for a mac laptop. the mpc 1000 sees only one side of this memory i.e 32mb. I have also tried 128mb & 256 & 512 mb modules all of which only one side was seen some were pc133 dont ask me specifics cause i cant remember. when booting up with say a 512mb module 256mb was seen but it does a 4 pass test on the memory and it comes up saying there is a fault.

I dont believe the ram is faulty I think i either didnt have the correct ram for it or it just to big - did this with anything above 64mb (then again I think the 64 was the only PC100 SD 3.3volt ram module i had at the time) ... . hop this is helpful ! BANG THEM BEATS! HA HA!

this is probably the stupid question but it would help if i knew it. what do you mean by key-hole?

I too attempted to pop in the memory from my powerbook g4; 144 pin pc133 sdram.

The 256 mb stick worked perfectly and gave me 128mb.
The MPC recognized the 512 mb stick as 256 but it did not pass the memory test.

It appears that the mpc can't handle that much ram yet. I am not sure if it is a hardware or software limitation. Perhaps it will be supported in a future OS update.

did anyone else try to stick in a 512 mb ram successfully?

key, key-hole, notch - the cutout on the RAM that matches the extra plastic on the MPC's socket. Allows you to insert the card only 1 way.

"There's no other RAM that's "close" in size to the 144pin SODIMM"

Actually there is. iMac G3 233-266 used a 144-pin SODIMM with the key at a slightly different location.

This memory http://www.memoryx.net/exm128.htmlis not going to work in the MPC 1000. This is 168 Pin Memory. The MPC uses 144 Pin 133mhz Memory. Based on both the pictures and the Specs it will not work. There are at least 3 links to memory that has been tested and does work in the 1000 in this thread. I don't think that Memory X has ever tested the memory in a MPC 1000. I also know that the cost on a true Akai EXM128 memory chip to a wholeseller is alot more than the price that they have listed retail. The memory has to be 256mb, 144 Pin, 133mhz in order to read as 128mb on the MPC. I purchased memory from Microcenter for $56 over 2 months ago and I have not had a problem.

The memory that I purchased is

Just hope that you don't make the mistake of purchasing something that will not work. :)

where did you find this ram for 17$ canadian?

By dsuh Sun Jun 27, 2004 11:53 pm
The 512 doesn't work!

16Mb standard, (11.5 Mb sound memory) exp. to 128Mb

It's 16MB-128MB...

On the other hand you can have up to 2GB for the CF.
