Lots of ways to make bass lines in an MPC - here's just a few:

1) you have a sampler so sample some bass notes and assign them to some pads
2) purchase some ready made MPC bass programs which spread the bass notes chromatically across your pads
3) Trigger bass sounds in a sound module or VSTi in your computer via MIDI
4) sample a single bass note and use 16 levels to spread it across your pads

All covered in my 'Beat Making on the MPC1000' book:

Using a bass guitar or a dedicated bass synth won't hurt either.

And then there's always the 'Low end theory', look it up.

The "low end theory" technique was used there.

Make a copy of your sample's program and one of your sample's track. On the original program, apply a slight HPF (that's your first track). On the copy, apply a heavy LPF (that's your second track). Now have fun muting/unmuting or playing your tracks together. You can also experiment with a compressor on that second track but do not over compress it.

This technique does NOT always work, depending on the sample.

Hope that helps
