How to play multiple samples at once?

I just got an mpc 1000 about 2 weeks ago, and I'm just figuring everything out right now. But u recently started trying to sample drums from songs, but I can't record anything because if any of the samples play at the same time, one of them will automatically mute or something making any beat that I create sound completely butchered. ?

change program setting from mono to poly.
