Mpc studio set up and needs for beginner

My nephew is really into beat making, he plays a lot of instruments but he wants to get into beat machines and software! He's a really good student and has great potential. I wanna know what I would need to set him up without breaking the bank. I want to get him the Mpc studio but I'm not sure what kind of laptop to pair with it or what else he needs to produce and record. Any feedback would be great!
