Using sampled sounds via midi keyboard

Hi,

Looking to decide the right equipment to buy to get back into music production - I mainly want to sample instruments / sounds from an external source, play melodies on a midi keyboard and record them back in, layering the track that way. Can I do this with say an MPC Touch?

I'm debating whether to get MPC or just use Reason and a midi keyboard for this purpose, not sure what the best solution is. Appreciate some advice

reason and a keyboard works just fine.

audacity is good software to record samples.
