MPC 2OOOxl os disk

What exactly is this disk needed and used for, because my 2KXL is havin problems readin my SCSI 5 drive, so im tryina figure out is the problem with the zip drive or the mpc.
when tryin to format and save on my zip (external), i keep gettin an error screen, i can't remember the exact # but i think it sayin error 0000:D144 , or somethin like that, so can this OS disk help me?

U Can also get an error from the system not recognizin' the drive or disks
