Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

So, I hate to resurrect an old thread... BUT...

Does anyone know of a proper modern (2018) replacement for the jog wheel?

I've been considering trying to find one without detents and with higher PPR, for fast and silent jog wheel operation. A direct replacement would be fine as well, but I think it would be a cool customization for my 4k.

Got a bunch of omron pushbuttons to replace a few of the panel buttons that get a bunch of use. The "shift" button seems to be the roughest on the one I got. Will probably replace the "window" button, as well as the F1-F6 keys. If I could upgrade the jog wheel as well, that would be awesome.

I think a silent/no detent one would be great regardless of the PPR, since I think that is my wife's main gripe with my using the MPC instead of my computer. That high speed clicking gets on her nerves, even though she would never say so. ;)

I don't know of or haven't even researched this in a long while. I can't comment, sorry man.

From looking on the data sheet, part #RES16B50-201C has a higher resolution 50 vs. standard 25, no push button and no click with a holder....

Yep, I was looking at that data sheet, although it seems like these Copal parts are no longer manufactured. I was hoping for something from Alps, Bourns, Omron, or CTS. I've been poring over datasheets lately, but I'm unsure of the limitations of form factor (since I have not opened the 4k top panel yet, and it's my first MPC).

I know the original is like 16mm or something, but I can't be sure if say a 20-25 mm encoder would fit or not. Also wondering about the shaft, like if it is round, splined or D/flat.

I would dig a fifty PPR encoder (I think), especially if it were quiet. If I update the fan, and switch to an SSD hard drive, then this would be one sweet machine!

Here's a UK seller for part #REC16B25-201-C "16mm Manual Encoder Double Shaft 25PPR" for 22 pounds but back ordered until Apr :? ...
https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/optical-rotary-encoders/1825635/

And Allied in the states still has them for $18.28 a piece...

These prices still beat MPC Stuff's prices at $50 an encoder. :Sigh:
