Why do you need to use cd-rom via USB?
The 4000 already has a CD drive in the front of it.

Ah, good point! I forgot. I think it was optional tho in Europe so lots of used 4ks don't have them. The one I'm looking at on eBay doesn't. Is it a SCSI or IDE drive?

I haven´t tested it myself but I think a USB drive should work.

this (USB CD ROM) works like a charm

-i have 2 IDE HD instead of 1 internal CDROM + 1 HB-

in fact, this is the only way of getting AKAI (sample) CD-ROM's into the MPC4k

another usage for the front USB (apart from a keyboard) is to power other devices
