Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

Hello everyone!

I'm embarrassed to ask, but is it possible to use the MPC4000 as a CD player? Just to have it play a full track of a CD, or a complete album? If so, could anyone tell me how? My studio is jam packed with gear and I'd like to start minimising - so if the MPC can serve more that one purpose that would be awesome!

I haven’t tried my 4000 like that but I’m sure you can. Go ahead and try it.
I know it definitely works like that on an MV-8800.

My 4000 got shipped out so I’m doing this from memory...
Insert cd, turn input source to internal analog, press play, listen for music.

Hello everyone, I am currently upgrading my MPC4000 in order to make it my complete workstation - the PC wasn't helping my work flow.

Anyway, the old girl is in a bit of a mess and didn't come with the original CD drive. I have ordered a Sony DDU1615 which looks like it will fit perfectly, but I want to have the ability to play CD audio (as you can see from the other topic I posted). The problem is that I don't know how to install this.

The workshop manual suggests that I should have the CD analogue output plugged into P23 on the board, but it is already occupied and running to the board on the top section of the MPC. However, right next to that is P21, which is the correct type of header and looks with where the CD analogue output should go.

Is there a mistake in the manual or am I terrible silly? I have included some pictures to better explain. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks

Tony

For analog playback you may need this connection. Did you open up your mpc to check yet or put a normal audio cd in and try?

Yes, I have those connections on the drive, but I don’t know where to connect to the MPC. The manual seems incorrect

Also, the link you posted doesn’t work. Yes I’ve opened the MPC, the pics above are mine. The issue is I don’t know where to connect the Analog CD to the MPC

My bad, it was your other thread, I merged it into this one though.

No problem man. Does anyone have a pick of the internals of an MPC with this CD audio connected?

I'm typing this from memory of something I did in literally about 2003, but as far as I can remember, if you have the digital I/O expansion board for the MPC4000 (which came fitted as standard in the UK?) then you can plug the digital output connector from a CD drive into that board, giving hugely better audio quality if you wanna play (or sample) a CD.

Oh damn, FELINE, wuddup.

I am too lazy to open up my 4k just to confirm anything for anyone though.

No, the UK version did not come with the IB4ADT as standard. I need to know how to connect the analogue audio output. Does anyone know?

Thanks,

Tony
