Put the 4000 in the closet, I like the 2500 much better. The only things I would keep from the 4000 are the effects, the build and the sound. Which brings me to this thread. It's driving me crazy how much better the 4000 sounds compared to the 2500. After switching back, it just sounds bland. Anyone got tips for dealing with that, or is it one or the other?

The 4K isn't worth anything nowadays. I could trade you an Edirol Midi 25 Key controller for one if you want.

I felt the same way with moving from 2000XL to 2500 (after using the 1000 since it basically came out).

I do have my own methods for processing sounds to where I like them. The converters in 1000/2500 are often referred to as 'dull' or uncolored. Some say they sound more 'digital,' whatever that means. For me I like JJOS and the workflow on those machines better than anything else I've used. You can always pre and post process your sounds.

If anyone decides to stick with 1000 or 2500, look into tube preamps, old mixers, resampling through tape, etc..

Maybe so, but I'm a very visual learner. Having the grid edit on the main page and things like being able to see the line follow along when you trigger a sample in trim mode make a world of difference to me. But all of those amount to creature comforts if it doesn't sound right out of the gate.

Learn however you want, it's perfectly fine.
