Just wanna be first! Let's hope people will use the search button before posting the same question 1000 times...

I guess that Akai will soon sell some standard HD drives for premium prices!

I wonder which HD drive (non-Akai) can we use to install?
Where to buy it and how much it did cost you?

Please share us your experience as soon as you've got it up and running.

wonder what's the biggest we will be able to go up to with the HDs I know it says 80gig on the specs but we all thought that 80gigs was the limit on the 4000 and now it's 120gigs user install

I just ordered the Toshiba 40G drive for the MPC. It should be here in about 2 days.

The Toshiba 40G drive arrived today. Installation into the MPC 2500 took only a few minutes.

How is the noise level with the drive? One thing I liked about the MV-8000 and didn't like about the MPC4000 was that I could hear the drive in the 4000 but not the 8000. If there is any significant noise coming from the 2500 with a hard drive I won't install one.

I can't remember exactly about my MV..but I don't recall silent operation. The MPC 4000 uses standard IDE CDRW and Hard Drives. These drives have a variety of specs. You can buy quality quite drives or cheap noisy ones.

Q: If there is any significant noise coming from the 2500 with a hard drive I won't install one.

A: The Toshiba drive I am using is very quiet. I have to put me ear to the MPC to hear it.

That's exactly how the MV is...I have to put my ear to it so I can hear the hard drive. It looks like I might add a hard drive to the 2500 after all. I can rip it out if it seems too loud.

The drive in my 4000 is the one that came with the MPC. I'm not saying it's excessively loud but it isn't quiet at all. I don't think it would be easy to say what is or isn't a quiet drive or I would replace it with something else. I'll see what happens with the 4000 later this year. If the new black ones are better than the old ones then I'll upgrade.

If you do your research..you can. All hard drives are not equal.

Hey Jahrome,
Did your 2500 come with the kit to attach the drive? Did you have to buy it seperately?

Everything you need is already in the MPC 2500. You unscrew the HD mount within the MPC, connect the HD to it, and insert it back into the MPC.
