the pads are the same ones that are on the 2000, the 1000 has rectangular pads. these are the same squares that are on all the others.

Yeah but they are cheaply made....You can tell by looking at them!!!!

the sensors is what bugs me about the 1000, its like 3 years old almost and i hear about mad cats having to get replacements.

QC is MIA at akai, although the 4000 probably used better parts.
