hello people,

this is my first post in this forum so i wanna say hi to everybody!
i been sneaking around for a while so im pretty up to date with the
issue on no other cd-drive working than the cd-m25 from akai.

as i not yet have my mpc-2500, i learned something new when one
of the dealers i have contacted for info and prices sent me a email
and quotet that akai has underpowered the bus and therefore not
all cd-drives work with the mpc-2500.

that not only leads me to the question if there might be other "low
power" laptop drives that one could use.

but more alarming to me is the issue that you cannot burn cds with
the current os (as stated in the samplekings preview video by the akai
tech). is it possible that we will never see the burning feature because
it seems to be not only a software issue? (... jahrome anywhere?)

if akai stated that the 2500 will be able to burn cd's and the CD-M25 is a burner then i do believe it is a software issue. just like your computer, if you have a cd burner, and don't have the software to actually burn the cd's then your burner is only a reader. there is no hardware conflict there. so i think all akai has to do is implement that part of the code in the next OS.

Akai did the same with the MPC 4000. The initial OS didn't burn CDs. This was added later which is suppose to be the case with the 2500.

thanks for your replies,

i also think that burning might be added in an os upgrade.
and i´m aware of the fact that the cd-m25 also has flaws regarding
sample cds and some other ish...

but my other point was concerning non akai cd-drives. maybe
some other manufacturers will work with the mpc-2500 - but
will not properly support all operations (e.g. burning) because
akai messed something up with the buspower and therefore
it might have to little power to burn...

im not to deep into laptop drives - but since you can use several
different ram or hdd models, i might assume that other cd-drives
are useable as well.
some people have little money so the like to have the opportunity to
use non akai parts.

I tried using 3 party drives..but none worked.

As far as issues with the CDM25...yes there are some but nothing that can't be worked around until Akai releases the MPC 2500s OS update. All of this is detailed in one or two other threads.

hello,

yeah i read the other treads, thatz why i´m so aware of the little problems.

anyway my dealer e-mailed me today that he found a cd-drive that appears
to work with the mpc-2500. and he stated that it was a cd-burner.
i will call him later and try to find out which manufacturer he found.

maybe then i wait for the os update to see wether the cd-m25 or a third
party drive will do the trick... till then, there are millions of ways to enjoy
my mpc.
