2500 sync with a x0xb0x

hi,

i am getting a timing issue with my 2500 (os2xl) and my x0xb0x, and i'm pretty sure this didn't ever occur with my 2000xl.

when i have the mpc as slave so that i can record the midi data coming out of the x0xb0x, all the 1/16th notes fired out seem to get 3 ticks added to them, ie the first one is recorded on 1:00:03 etc. the midi sync settings of the mpc are pretty simple, so everything there is configured correctly

i'm sure i read somewhere that this is an issue with the 2500 (not just jjos either). surely a midi sequencer should have spot-on timing??!! is this something that JJ is aware of? will it ever get fixed?

What about if you have the MPC as master and use it to trigger the xoxbox? (Assuming it accepts start and stop commands.)


Or a work around, although a PITA, would be to record it as you are then highlight it all, copy, erase track and paste on the first beat.

Although acid lines generally have afairly slow attack and sound good with a very slight delay over the beat

hmmm, not tried that. i guess i could have the mpc as master and then just record what the x0xb0x fires out. will try later and see if its more accurate. i could also just shift everything in the track by -3 ticks after i record it. i don't see why i should though! the 2000xl was fine IIRC

its just strange that this seems to be an MPC2500 issue. i knew i should have been suspicious by the graphic that says "MUSIC production centre" on the top left-hand corner

What music you producing by the way? Can't imagine that many hip-hop and R'n'B producers doing that much with a 303 clone.

now has perfect timing with the mpc as the master, and its probably an easier way of working anyhow

Oh I know there are some bits but they're definietly not in the main and probably mostly from when the TB303 was originally released, a reasonable price and not so associated with a specific sound. Think about the kind of sound it was advertised as being for (a bass-line synth) rather than the screaming acid lines it is known for worldwide and now make it such a sought after piece of equipment.

acid, to me doesnt scream, when in the right hands, ie: Pierre's Phuture Phantasy "slam/spankspank" / armando "151"/"acid poke", and those from Chicago House scene c'1986, started real acid, i think you're referring more to nowadays' 'Trance'.

Ever heard of (London) Acid Techno? I HATE Trance (well the vast majority of it) but yes you do have both Acid trance and Psy-Trace that are influenced by the sound. Although I have to admit I'm not that keen on most techno either...

And yeah more nowadays than '86, although probably really talking about '91-'97 for proper acid techno so still over 10 years old. I don't think it's so much the acid house sounds that people seek the 303 for any more but maybe that's just because I live in the UK...
