CCs can act as buttons for these functions:
http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/os2xl/button.htm

START, PLAY, STOP, OVER DUB, REC,UNDO When 64 or more values of CC are received, it works the same as the selected button.
REC+PLAY When 64 or more values of CC are received,
it works as the same when you press the REC button and the PLAY button simultaneously
REC+START When 64 or more values of CC are received,
it works as the same when you press the REC button and the PLAY START button simultaneously
DUB+PLAY When 64 or more values of CC are received,
it works as the same when you press the OVER DUB button and the PLAY button simultaneously
DUB+START When 64 or more values of CC are received,
it works as the same when you press the OVER DUB button and the PLAY START button simultaneously
Q1SLIDER-Q4SLIDER
(Q3 and Q4 are not in MPC1000.) A value also changes according to the value of CC.
PAD_01-PAD_16 The pad selected when 64 or more values of CC were received is turned on.
The pad selected when 63 or less value of CC was received is turned off.

Haha, thanks for that list! I actually had the same idea to make macros when button mode first showed up. I think Live is the easiest to work with since you can put the macros in clips and then trigger them with midi or a keyboard key. I need to get around to testing the BCR2000 later.

I'm relatively new to using a MPC and that makes it somewhat hard to come up with ideas for macros in the first place. If anyone of the more experienced users have any ideas for things to try I'm all ears!

I think that mapping the slider to an endless knob on the bcr2000 might prove very useful for chopping. And I think I could set it up so one knob controls both sliders differently. Sending external sequences/LFOs to control the sliders while I'm playing the pads would be neat.

I'm going to see if I can set up some auto chopping as well.

One thing that I don't like about the MPC is naming files. I'm going to try and come up with something today. I think it might be a matter of sending commands to scroll back to the start(one knob turn?), then scrolling up the right amount to get to the letter then(1-26 plus the numbers),then one command to step forward. If Live lets me map all the letters out to clips then I could type in my sample names.

yes LIVE will be perfect for this, did you hear that, Distortedtekno???
you won't need the plugin i posted recently. that's just there if your DAW doesn't support midi file sampling/playback

i haven't done this, but you could use Glovepie + a 2nd keyboard on your computer to type on your mpc...
would take a bit of scripting but it's completely doable (without sending the keystrokes to your computer, so you wouldn't be typing on both at the same time)

but as far as naming goes, use the pads, not the data wheel. it's much faster once you remember what letter is where.

Yeah I'm listening Nym!
So I can use the MPC to launch clips in Ableton? I think I recall someone mentioning that in the Studio Environments a few years ago (though I could be mistaken).
Let me jump on the other topic as well. Been experimenting with the Desktop Evolver Sound Editor and that took me into a whole different world. lol

Can i get button mode somehow on my mpc1000? I'm struggling trying to set up a midi foot controller. If i could just choose values like you guys are describing, that would be great...

Not if you've got AKAI OS.

@Nym

I installed the piz Midi Looper as a VSTi in EnergyXT. Have two questions, maybe you could help:

Do you know if it's possible to adjust the LOOP AREA to shorter than two bars? I can adjust the grid area to one bar but not the loop area.
I also can't adjust the loop area from the beginning of the first bar, only from the end of the second bar and only backwards.

Can notes be entered with a midi keyboard (in step mode)?

ok - this might be a multistep post.

i love PML and support the use of it (please donate!!) but it will take a little more setup than perhaps another option in EXT. i think you can load midi files directly into EXT and point them to your MPC input.

alternately and more efficiently, you can use REAPER. REAPER's "sws extension" allows you to load MIDI files into the "media slot" function and then blast them to a track. you point the track output at your MPC midi input and presto, done deal. Ableton Live probably would be easier still - i don't use it though.

as far as macro construction, REAPER also helps make midi macros because you can view MIDI data like this:

Image

to do this, save the list at the end to a txt file. then go into reaper, open a midi item, and go to file/customize note names/load names from file. it helps a LOT.

that's cool, I'll try making a list in reaper but I'll most likelly use them in energyXT with pML, reaper does not have a modular view :(

One thing that I'm lacking is a (VST) keyboard i.e. qwerty to midi plugin. So far I found two programs, but they're not VST's. Have you seen any?

reaper does not have a modular view

i know, and i lament that to the developers often. the FX function modularly, but without the sweet/easy modular style view that eXT has.

you could just run reaper in the background, serving only as a macro-feeder.

kb to qwerty:

you'll want to dl all of these for use in EXT anyway.

there's one in there called midi2qwerty16

yep, I've got all of the piz plugs in my VST folder already but that's a midi to QWERTY converter, I need it the other way around. I guess I'm going to have to build a QWERTY to MIDI keyboard or write a program.

thanks a lot for the info! I spent the whole night learning and scripting, now I can use my notebooks keyboard for naming files directly in the mpc.
