JJOS-XL Use With No Password - Limitations?

This is my first post so if I'm going about this the wrong way/if theres already an answer on this: MY BAD, i just can't seem to find any discussion on this nor any answer/suggestions on my problem, even in the XL manual.

Thank you to everyone (all the advanced members and definitely Andy) who's answers (and books) in other threads have proved MPC-Forums to be the HOLY GRAIL - another reason to not go Maschine

It is my dream to be alongside all the advanced members one day, contributing to this amazing community and most especially the JJOS side of MPC-Forums (which is like the gay porn side of pornhub)

Now, My Problem: I know I'm being cheap by trying to get the full use of XL without a password, but I'm just having a trial with the OS so I'm sure i like it. However in my first beat on the XL OS i noticed i can't add any onboard effects to a pad, trying to add grunge to drums, when i highlight the "--" indicating no effect is active on Pad X and spin the data wheel - nothing happens, stays "--"

Is this just me? are there more limitations to password-less XL use i should be aware of? OR am i just not doing something right.

Saving is the only thing missing from the trial.

To apply fx to a particular pad, select the pad and in the MIXER screen, go to L/OUT and select an output, e.g. ST. Now go to FXSEND and select which FX buss you wish to use.
