the 500 shouldnt be compared to any other mpc including the 1000 because the 500 isnt a fully featured MPC, its in a class all by itself, and on the flip side of that no other mpc offers what the 500 offers, portablity.

I dont think the 500 should be anyones 1st mpc or their main unit, u'll be shortchanging yourself. The mpc is perfect as your 2nd unit though, your field kit or sketch pad to take ur ideas back to ur "big" mpc to flesh out the ideas more fully.

depends what you prioritze. The 2kxl is built much better and the specs are generally favourable.

the 500 is more compatible with computers/storage- and is portable.

With that setup, an mp is just luxury. Infact, you could do it all and more using the mv-8000 alone. You definately dont need it....

Although, if you got a more-than-healthy cashflow, go for the 500. because the gear you got at the moment is quite big and heavy, it might be nice to have a small compact unit that can be moved around easier. The 1k is still abit heavy and doesnt work on batteries like the 500, so its not so portable afterall..

If you want the 500 for the portability factor then by all means go for it.It's an awesome unit and you will also find good use for it in your studio with your other gear.IMO :D
