no output sound when sampling

Im trying to sample from external input. Ib have a signal but i am getting zero output sound. I have selected DirectSound, input line 1/2 mpc touch, output speakers akai mpc touch. What am in doing wrong. Just trying to here what I'm sampling in process.

Top right corner of REN. Turn the middle knob titled "direct mon" to the halfway mark. Straight up. This will allow you to hear what's coming in and what your putting out
