This is with OS2XL 2.27.
Newest OS at this time.
Might not happen to all samples but seems to happen on long ones.
I have only tested mono samples.

Load a long (try 5 seconds) mono sample. Preferably a smooth pad, not a drum loop.

TRIM Page

Hit [F4]: Loop ON
Let the loop be long, try 75%.
Change type to XFADE

Listen: Loop should be crossfading smoothly.

Converrt to normal loop.
Hit [F5]: X to ->

The computed sample does NOT sound like the original sample in XFADE mode. Strange level jumps (aprox 1 per second) are introduced.

sounds like the xfade loop is a destructive process in the 1000 (or rather say in this OS). Crossfade looping is blurring the end and startpoint of a loop by mixing a specified amount of material before/after these points. Since it's mixing two signals together the original signals need to be lower in amplitude to get a smooth crossing without any change of amplitude.
When this process is made and you undo it it seem that the OS dont change the amplitude of the start/endpoints back to its original.

Only workaround I can imagine is saving the original before xfade loop so you can always go back to the original.

What you can do is upgrade to the latest version and check if your bug is the bug that has been fixed in os2xl 3.12 :

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Bug fix: MPC1000 OS2XL Ver3.12 05-DEC-2011
-----------------------------------------------------------------

2. [TRIM]

Crossfade loop
A noise may be contained if the sample of large size is converted to a forward loop.
