what causes this message to pop up when clicking new posts:

I'm guessing the way the forum software works by using a search of recently created or commented threads...

Are you using so type of cookie blocker on your web browser?

It's a PITA when you are searching for a post you know exists somewhere, looking through multiple pages of search results, getting that message every time you move to the next page of results.

Right, had no idea it applies flood control to each and every page of the results, it shouldn't do as the initial server load only occurs on that initial query submission (all the results are cached after that).

This is the default behaviour of the software, not something I've hacked. As an admin, I don't experience any of these restrictions so never knew it was happening.

I've set the flood control much lower now....
