My MPC 3000 LE floppy drive stopped working after a floppy got stuck inside it. I can't find one anywhere. I have a zip drive also but I have old songs and sounds I desperately need from off the old floppy disks.

1. Is there anyone who knows a SURE place to get another floppy drive?

- or -

2. Does anyone know how I can transfer the floppy data via Macintosh or PC computer onto a zip disk?

- or -

3. Does anyone have any technical data about the floppy drive that could help me troubleshoot the problem?

- or -

4. Is it all just a lost cause?....

did you try to pull the floppy drive out and swap with a regular computer flopppy being that all the internal cables should most likely be the same?

Actually, the floppy is unique because it has jumpers on it. All the drives I have tried (I feel like the Fred G. Sanford of floppy drives by the way) don't work. Every computer specialist I have taken it to is stumped. The Akai site provides no help either. I feel like I may be at a lost but I won't stop until I am at least able to transfer those songs/samples from floppy to another format.

Thanks for trying though Dude...

Perhaps someone knows how I could put a hard drive in, in place of a floppy? I know I would need a new connector...?

Anybody, hellooooo.....

I don't think that's possible. You can get a scsi card on your computer and a scsi hard drive and copy the floppies to the hard drive on your PC and then connect the hard drive to the mpc with the copied files on it....

Akai can supply replacement floppy drives.

"Every computer specialist I have taken it to is stumped."

Some computer specialist. I guess there is a reason you call them specialist and not `expert`. Anyone familiar with hardware systems for at least 6-8 years know these types drives very well. Teac still manufactures them.

WELL I'LL BE A MONKEY'S UNCLE! (Well maybe his nephew by a couple of thousand years)

The Teac website looks good as far as I can see. Just need to check the specs and verify if it is in fact the same floppy drive and I'll get back to all....

Thanks MPC3000.
