Mpc 60 screen doesn't show on start up

I have an Mpc 60 that I bought in 2005. Lately I've noticed that when i start the machine up for the first time in a while the screen is blank and I have to push down below the screen to make the display show. I ordered and installed a new backlight, and the display is much clearer now, but the problem persists. I think it's some kind of connection issue. Also, could it be linked to the contrast knob/cable somehow? Does anyone else have this kind of problem? I appreciate any kind of help!

I might have solved the issue. I have the upgraded OS and the MPC loads it from the zip drive i have connected via SCSI. Without the SCSI connected, the screen goes blank on start up while it is searching for the os and when the SCSI is connected it seems to boot normally. I think it overloads the inverter while it is searching for the OS and thus the screen goes blank.

what version OS is that? I thought on the mpc 60 that the OS was entirely stored on eprom chips inside the machine.
