scsi2sd v5 - it works great with the 3000

Note - there is a newer version v6, but it does not work so well with old hardware like the MPC, v5 works best.

You will have to get some adapter or cable to fit it though. This allows you to connect it in an external box with a standard scsi 25-pin cable -

scsi2sd makes more sense than a normal SCSI card reader to me.

I believe the v5 emualtes 4 or 5 scsi ids simultaneously. This means you could daisy chain it to multiple samplers at the same time. Also, it's actively worked on. It runs off of bus power, so no need for external power cords or power supplies.

scsi2sd seems great!

3.11 is currently installed, it seems like i should update to valixi before doing this.

where should i source the valixi update?

also, will this mpc support 8gb cards or is it better to go with 1gb cards?

You don't need Vailixi, scsi2sd works with 3.11 I believe, but Vailixi will give you more options - you can create 'hybrid partitions' that can be read by Mac or PC. Also it has the excellent live sound edit mode, so you can edit sounds while a sequence is playing.

The only place you can find Vailixi now is on ebay. Though I see Rohan Mansell is around again so maybe it will be available now from the source.

The maximum size for a 3k scsi drive is less than 1GB. Scsi2sd can format 4 'virtual' scsi drives on one card, so the maximum useable SD card is 4GB, anything larger is just wasted space.

excellent!

i’ve purchased vailexi and the scsi2sd, just trying to procure an adapter atm. any leads on any other sources besides the one ya listed? they seem to be out of stock for an unknown amount of time. btw, i’m stateside.

This adapter is available on ebay or directly from Artmix in Japan - ebay item 332405160513

It will enable you to install the scsi2sd internally in the 3k. I think it's a ripoff price for what it is, but there doesn't seem to be anything else available right now. The only other option would be to make up a custom cable yourself. Or it might be worthwhile contacting Amigakit (the adapter I linked to earlier) as they do seem to update their stock regularly.

Here's the SCSI2SD v5 mount bracket on eBay for $16.50...

man, all this support, endless gratitude over here, really.

so i purchased the mount bracket because i love the idea of mounting this in the mpc. it seems at this point all i’m missing is the adapter. $54 is incredibly expensive, especially considering the adapter from amiga is $12 + shipping, when in stock.

i reached out to amiga for an eta on the restock but does anyone have any other leads on an adapter?

$54 is mad cheap for what you get. I paid $75 for my v5a SCSI2SD card a couple of years ago.

Have you tried looking at sites that sell products for hardware samplers? I know sites like syntaur or chic systems offer a wide range of scsi adapters and cables. Not too deep into this stuff but if you're looking for a certain scsi adapter it might be worthwhile looking into these sites if it's just a generic scsi adapter.

I've been using a hd similar to the scsi to sd and man they are great. I paid about the same price but the one you got seems a little better. Either way, they are good and can vouch for them with older samplers.

Why does that even matter?

Well, he wrote the Vailixi code so maybe there is a slim possibility of official support and maybe even updates or bugfixes if he got involved again. I know it seems like Vailixi was abandoned and I don't know anything about the circumstances surrounding that or the man himself, only what I have read on this forum so it's no more than idle speculation on my part.
