I have the opportunity to buy a MPC 60 for $400 or a MPC 2000 for $750. Which is the better deal? I have owned a MPC 60 once before and was very happy with it. From what I have gathered so far the 60 has an older yet still very reliable sampling engine, 8 outs, scsi output (no upgrade though). The 2000 is more compact, easier to edit sounds because of the graphical display and is newer. What are your opinions?

depends on what you already have and what kind of sound you're into .The 2000 can be the masterpiece of a studio set up if you know how to use it ( 32 megs is way enough to make hip hop !!!) and it's a modern piece of gear ( wav , zip drives ) with a very neutral sampling engine and a bad filter (by the way don't pay more than 100 bucks if you want the effects board ) .i don't know what to say because 400 for a mpc 60 is cheap ! anyways if you want just a machine for making beats buy the 60 .Hope it will help !!!!

That is just it, the 60 does not have 3.1x OS it has the older OS so say I buy the 60 for $400 + $200 for the 3.1x upgrade that is $600 when I could just get the 2000 for $750. Is the 60 w/ upgrade just as good as the 2000 or should I go for the newer box. I don't have any experience with the 2000, but I like the idea of a graphical display when it comes to chopping my samples. I am using a Roland SC-88 sound module, Planet Phatt sound module, Boss DR-202 drum machine, Acid 4.0 and Sound Forge on a Windows XP platform if that helps. Thanks for any feedback.

I should buy the 60 and upgrade it to 3.10 + fix a SCSI at Roger Linn.
I have owned a 2000 fullly blown. (Fx, 32Mb, 8-Outs and SMTE) and i must say it still sounded awful flat. It has no thump to it when you sample drums! I sold it last mont for 1200 Euro (1240$) The guy was really happy with it because the unit was almost new.
I am waiting now for a 3000le to come in but if i find a 60 for that price i will buy it asap. It still is the 12-bit crunch that dous the work for drums man for real! Just listen to the SP1200, it's icredible.
Of course the grafic edits on the 2000 is nice but they just don't make machines like the 60 anymore in 2003. :( 80's Quality is what i need, i don't know about you...?
Cheers dun! 8)

if it's a mk I, get it and upgrade it with scsi too. 2000 prices are dropping fast, odds are the 60's price with stick around where it is for a while.

I love my 60.
