You may not believe this, but We used a Roland Sound canvas for a lot of that stuff. Then I would stack that with a vintage keys bass (210 I think) and I had an SE-1.

It's an upright bass sound.

I think after Menace dropped I started using a rack mount Roland with acoustic expansion pack.

Here's mine. Just picked it up for cheap going to instal 3.50 a CF drive & some new pads.

Audiophiles come up with some really far-fetched claims, as I'm sure you've read with many pieces of equipment. I've seen that quite a bit, reading about turntable modifications selling for ridiculous prices. My guess is that a lot of audiophiles suffer from the placebo effect. But anyway, the wood sides on that 3000 look nice.
