got my beat pretty much done in the car the other day, just gotta do some new sequences with some change ups and such then track it outta my 500.. i never use song mode. usually when i track out i flip threw the sequences by hand and hit a few pads here and there.. i prefer freestylin my beats from my 500 into my daw.. anyone else do this on their mp?? as a matter of fact i think i have never used song mode, not even on my 1000!

Ya, also only ever used song mode once to test it out when I got my MP4K.
I get by with live arrangement via track mutes, effect twiddling.. Record to stereo track. Usually just have the one sequence too. I do it like that cos finishing a song in the first sitting works for me, which means finishing it while it still sounds good, and hasn't been overanalyzed/changed by the left side of my brain. It's like a chase

yeh i do this, i am making a beat tape using this method of tracking out now. i use a 1000.

i do use song mode for normal beats / skeleton ideas. but tracking out is usually always involves track mutes and or live muting.

So i guess you just track out your beats using only the master track from the MPC? It's strange, i think you have much more control when you track out one track at a time, add effects to each track etc...
I used to do that too, but my beats sound much better now that I try to do a proper mix.

My PC is that slow and outdated i cant load more than 2 or 3 FX so i only really track ST outs - these beat battles are tough for me because i track out my ST outs then can only really apply a slight limiter and some lexicon reverb before the PC starts to bog down. Unless i spend time doing one FX then bounce, import, add another FX, bounce, import. etc.

When i mix a beat for a CD, i will use your method - and it is very time consuming but worth it tracking out through song mode, dead right Borat!

Mate, update your PC as soon as you can!

I struggled for years with an underpowered computer and it only holds you back. I've got around 40 plugins running on my current tune on my MBP, and don't get me wrong, the CPU is peaking but I've got so much scope to do shit before I have to mix stuff down.

There's plenty of PC building specialists on here who can help you out if you need advice.

sometimes.. im more of a reason/ni user, but when i do shit on my mpc, especially the 500 i mostly track out the master, dont get me wrong though, i filter everything in the mp, eq, get shit sounding as good as i can, but usually im just trying to make some raw ass hip hop with my mp so i dont really need that much stuff, now when im making beats with maschine or reason its a different story, i track out into reason6 so i can add hella effects, even solo and record track for track and add effects, but like i said i really dont much with the 500 :)

I used to use song mode if I had to rework something for a mc you know like 16x4x16x4 or 16x8x16x8x16 but I dont really do that anymore cos its boring and often provides unwanted boundaries...fu*k a structure, get creative. Now I just record a beat live in one take (process below) and simply chop or loop what Ive recorded where needed after and add effects through 'adobe audition' where ill also record vocals and master.

99% of the beats I make are combinations of even bars that I track out through my 2500 st into my 4/8 track analog mixer which runs into my pc (direct connection no midi or usb mixer/interface).

Ideally id like to record individual tracks to my daw like borat and many others but I dont have the equipment and Im happy with the music I create with what I have and Im also incredibly inpatient.

For me thats the greatest reward of owning a MPC, being able to create an entire piece of music without the hassle of powering up your pc or even owning one for that matter.

Currently trying to make this shit make sense at the moment. Not a sample i'd choose, but i'm coming up with some dark shit at the moment.

This is really hard for me i'm not used to flipping a track. I like taking loads of samples from loads of records. Lots I could do with this :(

I used to be like that but I like using a PC at the moment. It's easier to just do everything on the PC and use an LPD when you travel. Bringing a ton of equipment to uni is a hassle plus student areas aren't exactly got a good reputation on the burgulary front.
