same here althouh not as bad as the mode, pretty much everything below the jog wheel requires a hard press or angled press to get it working....ay maybe we can link up, burn one and knock this out together since I was gonna borrow the iron from ya...I'll hook you up with some tact switches if you running low :D

I definitely try the spray before de-soldering any tact switches. In fact, I'd recommend any 1000 or newer MPC users to buy some deoxit and tune the buttons up anytime they remove the casing..at least once every few years. Unless the MPC isn't being used much, funky acting tack switches are inevitable.

Same for me. My F1 and track mute buttons were acting more & more rebellious, but some deoxit brought back some discipline! Now everything's working like it's brand new.
"Thank You Deoxit" lol!

GODDAMMIT MY LEFT CURSOR BUTTON DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN AWESOME JAM.
totally killed the creative mood...
So yep, mpc's pretty much unusable.

I ordered some switches, but just to try it, I got some omron b3f-1020's. They should be identical to the alps ones (same specs and all), so I'm assuming they'll work, but I'll confirm this once I get them.

As expected, the omron B3f-1020 are good. I just replaced every single switch in my mpc, and it feels great. (along with the electrical tape pad sensitivity improvement - haven't gotten around to the silicone fix yet.)
It only took like an hour and a half, but it felt like friggin forever. I feel like I may have lost a few brain cells from all the flux fumes from the desoldering wick.

I had bought 100 of the switches for $10 off this guy on ebay. I first tried to order them from sparkfun, cuz I've had good experiences with them previously, fast shipping and all.
But check out this BS:
Quoted from the product page:
These are high quality Omron type B3F momentary on switches.

I ordered them, and they're absolute crap. So I emailed them up and was like "dudes, these switches are absolute crap. :x " (paraphrased)

And they reply:
I think the issue is a
misunderstanding of our description. These are not actually Omron
switches, but simply Omron type or similar to Omron switches. I can
see where the confusion came from and have put in a note with our
catalog manager to get this updated.

What is this BS? There is absolutely no room for interpretation in the description, I didn't misunderstand, they just lied!
:fku:

Whatever, I have the good omron switches now, it was only like $12 wasted.

that pissed me off so much that i emailed a complaint to Sparkfun. they have not changed the description since your issue and i saw your comment 1 month ago. it's really disingenuous that they are doing this. looks like i will no longer patronize them. unfortunate, since that usb host shield you're helping me with is a sparkfun product!

My Note Repeat and Rec buttons stopped working. I tried Deoxit D5, but to no avail.

Does anyone have the part number for the red under button tact switches? Preferably from Mouser since I'm going to order 50 of the smaller tacts from them too.

This tact switch is good for replacing MPC-1000, MPC-2000, and other MPC's red, large tact switches that are used for play, record botton, etc. I know you might notice that the shape is a bit different than the red switches on MPC, but this is compatible. This is nice, Omron brand, 12x12mm flat type switch (the part number is B3W-4000).

The MPC Specialist website charges $10 for this part.
