A couple of people have asked me to post
A step by step ,on screenprinting the casing
For a 2500.
Let me start by saying , I am NOT an authority
On this type of screenprinting or the art it took
To produce, however I am and have been
In the graphics industry for a little over
19 years, I have been screenprinting
Various substrates for years , and creating
Art including vector based graphics, for about 17 of
Those years. Screenprinting is a fun hobby and can
Be a lucrative business ,for those willing to invest
In the time it takes to learn.
I invite the crafty ,to use this info to experiment
With.
It may take a couple hours to get all these photos uploaded,
Please be patient and post any questions at the end, I will put end on
The last photo of this series, if people want to
See how I did the paint, there will be a second post
For this. Please know I only post to help others learn
About things that I personally have wrestled with or
To learn about my newly acquired 2500.
For now ,hope these photos give a good insight to screenprinting
In general, enjoy.

Here is the film that I used, notice it is
Cut in spots , once I output the film and
Laid it on the casing it was slightly off in
Certain spots , so I cut the film and hand
Placed the image where I needed, This
Could of been done in illustrator and re
Output but , I had been thru a couple films
Already and didn't feel like doing it, again.

This is an exposer unit, it is used to
Expose an emulsion coated screen,
Emulsion is a light sensitive liquid that
Is applied to the screen mesh.
A screen is just that, a frame made of
Wood or metal with a mesh fabric stretched
And glued to this frame.

This is the placement of my art on
The screen, this where you can see
The cuts I had to make in my films,
Notice the screen is upside down
As well as my film, this for film placement
Only, the screen will be flipped this side
Down, facing the the light output by the
Exposer unit.

Side note , there are many things you can use to expose
A screen, an example would be like a 400 watt hps lamp
Would probably work , I know our indoor horticulture
Cats know what I'm talking about.
But I have seen many light sources used to expose your
Screen.

Remove the film off of your screen
And take to the wash out booth.
The next couple photos are where you
Can see the image when rinsed.
Basically the light source hardens every
Thing around the art and leaves soft where
The image was on your film, these soft areas
Then wash away. Creating your "stencil"
These open areas where your art was, are
What lets the ink thru in those areas only.
Screenprinting is basically a sophisticated
Stencil.Image

I had already printed the right and left
Side of the casing , so for this print(pad detail)
I taped those areas off .
Below is a properly taped and prepped
Screen, ready for set up and print .
The red areas in the screen are a pin hole
Blocker , so if when you hold your screen
Up to light , there are sometimes very
Small holes in or near the imprint area.
So you use a liquid , paint on blocker (hole filler).
You don't want small imperfections in the
Print .

These are adjustable screen hinges
, I will remind you screenprinting
Does not have to be high tech,
I realize the stuff you see in these photos
May seem like you gotta have a bunch a
Crazy expensive equiptment to pull it off,
Most of the steps I took you thru , have
Tons of do it yourself versions of the equiptment
That I used. I work in a screen shop , so I had
The use of some pretty cool sh!t!
But like I said there are inexpensive ways
To do EVERY step that I show here.
I picked these up on eBay for $25. For the pair.

any chance you could post a link to the illustrator doc for download? just another option is if you do the whole MPC series you could sell them. maybe even get in links with MPC stuff and have a % per everyone downloaded... just sayin im doing marketing in school could be beneficial to yourself and im POSITIVE people would buy these... everytown has a screen printing place. bring them the template and tell them how you want it?
