I got a cheap 40x2 character LED LCD module straight from China and fits the 950 perfectly. It has the same the same pin layout as the the original one and two extra pins for powering the LED backlight. No more fading EL-Foil, no noisy inverter, just a bright as **** display. I paid 14 Euro for the display.

It's tricky to make a photo of the display because it's so bright.

Sadly not all display modules are as standardized as those found in the 950 (as far as I know). I'd really like to kick out the inverter of my mpc 60.

Those mods are well done and look the business...

Heard about those S-950 LCD screens on the web recently, I'm with you on the 60 screen!

I got super excited when I saw this, thank you for posting this! Even though I don't have a 950 (yet! lol) this would be essential.. I hate those EL foils.

I would LOVE one in my S-3200XL

Where did you take power to that lcd? Is it 5V DC?

Yes it's powered by 5V DC. I used the input cable of the inverter.

Just picked up 2 of these. I see they also do a Yello / Green display a la SP1200 re-issue. But I went for Blue for both my 950s. Would have liked a Blue on Black a la Noritake but hey ho...

One thing though - does the contrast knob still work?

Moving the contrast knob shows some small reactions. The display is perfectly readable in any contrast setting.

I've noticed that these new screens want to draw more amperage than the circuit wants to provide, I tried changing the capacitor on the button circuit board but that didn't work. Anybody know a way to provide more amps to the lcd? Mine is jumped off the inverter input of course
