Thanks
, and since you brought up the 2kxl.... here is my experience with it
I was working on a remix, used fl studio which was always my fav music app...
I exported all the main tracks and and stuck them into reaper... sounded worse straight away.
Then I used sonar... sound was even worse than reaper.. The main problem was that in both daws the drums lost their groove.. just sounded like piss... summing also seemed different/weaker... anyway I experienced the same c*rap years ago when I had the same workflow.
So then I bought the xl... was my 2nd hw seq. 1st one was an rs7k... which I always found had a s*it groove on drums..but otherwise had a great sound engine and realtime audio masturbation capabilities .
Anyway then I exported all the loops into the xl (didnt even use the sample ins)
...Sounded 'right' .... drums kicked the ass of anything I ever did in FL studio.. where I usually had to layer 10kicks and snares to get the full sound I wanted....
So after that experience I ditched the PC for music making and went OTB... music has been alot more fluid/fun since then... although OTB isn't for everyone.. and some people do great things ITB.
Anyway even though I've found alot of other samplers since then that I think sound 'better' than the xl...
I'd still give it credit for being one of the punchiest of all the samplers I've tried... when triggering internal single hit drum sounds... and my hihat patterns always sounded really funky with that thing... with or without swing..
Haven't been able to duplicate that with the mp4k.. which is great for it's robotic timing...but not always what you need..
...and I also prefer the xl sound to the 4k.... but I really hate the 4k sound.. so that's not saying much..... anyway to sum up, for drums I still think the xl is worth having.... nicer again is using it with something warmer like the asr/eps16 for a good contrast.
