compare it here http://soundcloud.com/sampler-shootout/sets/odb-main/

s3000xl / mpc2000xl

mpc3000 / s3200

Is an s3200xl and s3200 with an eb16? Or are the converters slightly different? Will sampling drums into the s3200 be 100% identical to the mpc3000?

The trend from the S1100 onwards, was to cut corners on quality to offer samplers at ever lower prices.

For me the most ear pleasing akai racks are the S900/S950/S1000/S1100

The S2800/3000/3200 (non xl) can *sometimes* sound slightly punchier than a s1000/1100, but it's not as creamy/less ear pleasing/less highend sounding.....and doesnt have the amazing stereo imaging... but they're still nicer than any of the later models I've used IMHO.

The S2800/S3000/S3200 are supposed to have circuity very close/the same to the mpc3k, certainly I can vouch for the punchy sound of the 3200..... but can't say 100% if it's identical to mpc3k... maybe someone else knows more...... or would stick the drumloop though the mpc3k so we can hear for ourselves.

The XL's have different circuitry, not sure if the converters are different, but they don't sound the same..... XL's where yet another cost saving iteration.... but with some cool extras to make up for the *worse* sound, like the filters.

After hearing the flac files I love my 60 and EPS classic even more, but I lust for the machinedrum UW, asr10, and s3200.

The 2000XL is ok, but after hearing all these beasts you need to add some EQ and saturation in your mix to catch up with the big dogs.

The 3200 and xl series rack samplers are hard to find around here in the states sometimes too. Oh and I'm moving my setup around, 2000 classic comparison is on its way!

yea I dont think they sold/made many, I've seen more of the 3200xl than non xl over the years.... but the prices on both seem to be all over the place..

I took mine down im sorry.I loaded the loop from the pc and to be honest it did not sound very interesting(the sample). But there lots of crazy stuff you can do with it.Had to sell it recently but am thinking about getting another one for a third time. Also check out the Octo track.Wicked machine too.

No I don't have one. I almost got one for a good deal, but pulled back. I heard I can go from 4KHZ up to 40KHZ with the sample rates right?

No i think SRZ has the recording still on his page. The sampling rates are fixed at 12 bits i dunno what khz but you cannot change it.It gets more lofi the lower the memory is apparently.Lost of features on board to mess with the sound.

you actually CAN adjust the sample rate before recording - though this parameter is not labelled in hz...its called 'RATE'.
this is only for the RAM machines which do function just a bit different from the ROM machines.

and you are correct, the MD will automatically lower this for you as you run out of sampling time. kind of cool, kind of annoying. cool in that you can sample without worrying about hitting a limit, annoying in that if yer not ready for it, your sample is going to come up dirtier than you planned.
