I solved this mystery right now, just thinking about it.
The red drum machine RZA used for Wu-Tang Forever was a Clavia DDRUM 2 or possibly the DDrum 3, made in Sweden.
Though Peterpiper had a DDRUM in his post but I think these fit the time-frame of when Wu-Tang Forever was being produced (1995-1996)

This thread made me wanna buy a Nord Drum 2, there was even one at a local store but I never swooped it. I eventually got a used DDrum 4 SE, super handy thing to have around it's easy to build a kit and trigger it with MIDI. I just need to MIDI dump more sounds on to it.

i just recently got turned on to the nd2 as well. seems like nothing but praise for that thing.
how do the ddrums differ, do you know?

I'm not entirely sure but from what I've read the Nord Drum has alot more tweakable parameters, where the ddrum is more bare bones.
