A dope post from Carloss Bess. Check it out if you didn't already.
A lot of cool info about WTF drums, gear used and "The Red Box". :smoker:

Now. What's your personal tip on what that red box could be?
Cast your vote - just for fun.

Still don't think so.. RZA was already working on WTF when ASR-X came out.

ASR-X came out when? 1997? And ASR-X Pro (the red one) was an update of former one, and came out year or so later, sometime in 1998. WTF was already recorded and out there at that time. Not to mention RZA had to start working on it long time before original ASR-X came out.

This puzzling me as well, as according to this the box came from Switzerland. But then I don't know about any Swiss made drum machine. And who knows, maybe Carloss was just **** with us and RZA was not using any "Red Box" whatsoever.

At that time there many samplers and drum machines from many different companies. Not like today where there's only 5 that cater to music production. But I can believe some small company actually made a decent machine.

Gonna have to look at my old Upstairs Records catalog

Can't find that book but, by memory of visiting Upstairs, the salesman showed me a red thing called JamMan that he said made beats. Trying to google it but nothing. Anyone remember the JamMan?

but the original post says right there...

There is a lot of truth in what Rza wrote in his manual. I never saw or played a DDrum on Wu-tang forever?
