Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
ByPPBZ Wed Jan 27, 2010 12:25 pm
hello,

i'm searching a HOT-SWAPPABLE INTERNAL card reader for my 2kxl. i know that they are out of stock, but maybe someone in the world knows someone who knows someone...and so on.
so if anyone has one for sale or, like i said, knows someone who has one for sale (can be used or new), let me know that!

hope anyone can help me :)

they have just those "selfmade internal" readers. it's actually a scsi reader and they custom it so that it fits into the slot.

yeah, they made the bracket... and they work well. plus it's scsi.

I know for a fact, scsiforsamplers bracket works on the internal scsi drives for 2kxl.
You'll be able to access internal scsi and mcd all at the same time.

OmniFlash™ IDE CF

IDE is not hot-swappable.

WTF, lol, you pay attention to one spec but not the other?!?!

Interface/connection on the 2kxl motherboard can accept both IDE/ATAPI.

The cf drive itself is an IDE drive, re-read again and understand it.

Both IDE/ATAPI can utilize the same data ribbon cable and 40 pin connection
so it actually comes down to what the device is spec'd as. You mpc is only as good
as it's weakest link.

Sorry to bud in guys, I'm also in the process of looking for a Compact Flash card reader... Lampdog, a while back, in a post called "PLEASE HELP" you posted a link to the following site, http://www.psism.com/psiiia.htm, which sells a cf reader for $75.

Now in this post I saw the cf reader for $17.

I don't know much about the "hot-swappable" feature, forgive my ignorance, but are you saying that this one at $17 does the job? That's a huge saving!

Germany, no problem, no prob at all.

ATAPI is hot-swappable, u can take that card out and put it back in and mpc will read it every time.

IDE drives are not hot-swappable (cf in the machine and cannot take it out while machine is on.
If you do you run the risk of destroying data on the card and/or you won't be able to read the card
again until you put it back in and power on).

It all comes down to you KNOWING what type of drive you are purchasing. they both use the same 40pin data ribbon cable on the 2kxl motherboard. The 2kxl can use both IDE and ATAPI drives.

sorin, I didn't post the $17 drive, that was PiPPo Beatz.
The drive I posted is the site years ago where I bought my mcd drive from, mine is
hot swappable though. The site has a newer model but it's IDE and that's the one I posted.
Which one you buy is on you. From what I read they will both work, they are both IDE drives.

I went over my 25 words limit, yall killin me, lol.

ok, gotcha lampdog, thanks!!!

I guess the thing I'm wondering about is the vast difference in prices for a cf drive:

http://www.mpcstuff.com/2000xl-mcd-mult ... drive.html goes for $125

http://www.psism.com/psiiic.htm goes for $75

http://store.compuapps.com/idecfflcare.html goes for $17

There is a HUGE difference in price between the first and third... Is it too good to be true? Most of the time you get what you pay for... Is there any risk the cheapest one will *not* work or is it pretty much the same made-in-china stuff?
