it's a sad state of affairs with such a legendary product lineage.

I assume it's because the code for the 5K is different, and maybe JJ doesn't have a copy, or didn't work on it

I suspect the code for the 1K and 2500 is very similar, so JJ writes it once and it works for both machines

I heard the OS for the 1000 and 2500 is virtually the same.

My guess is that JJ only has the source code / dev kit (whatever it is) for this OS but not for other machines. I'm sure there is some type of protection against running 3rd party code and necessary software or tools for the 3000, 2000, 4000 and 5000 are not within his grasp.

This is all speculation and my own opinion..

the 1000/2500 do have the same processor and underlying code (evidenced when the 2500 came out and had many of the same bugs as the 1000). the five hundred, also, used some of the early akai 1000 code. the 5000 is a different critter.

I wonder how much Akai would sell the rights for the source code to the 4 and 5k for. I mean, they're clearly done **** with them.

These cunts won´t sell these rights because that would hurt sales of their to-be scum products...

It's ****. They got the potential to put out a better product and possibly make more money than with these throwaway controllers they've been putting out. And they're not doing anything with it. There's barley any overhead when you're selling software these days. Just programmers.

Devs don't come cheap.. :)
Also they have just officially announced the release of the MPC-Live and the MPC-X, bolstering up the 5k and 4k could seriously hurt the sales of those machines.
