Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

From what I understand the 500 can sequence hardware sound modules via midi in and out recording the midi data entered and the sending it out to the module to sequence it but I havent seen any examples of the 500 being able to be used as a midi controller itself. For example i have an Mpc500 and a Moog Minitaur I want to sequence as a very minimal set up. Can I use the pads of the Mpc to control the minitaur like a keyboard? If so, how do I do this. Thanks.

You mean have the MPC be Master and play sounds from the Moog? Very simple, before plugging anything, hold Mode and press pad 9 for MIDI sync and the screen will ask which channels, just select ALL to cut out the brain work. Then plug a MIDI cable into the 500's out and send it into the MIDI in of the Moog. Make sure you set the Moog as the slave and whatnot.
