maybe it is a CD-ROM only, not a CD-R/W ?
you sure you popped in a blank CD-R ?
i think best to try with a 650MB, not more/bigger

I agree, pay attention to what type of cd your using.

OR (I've done this many times, get away from cd's)

Instead of using cd plug a computer formatted usb stick/thumb
drive into the front and save to usb stick/thumb drive. You can
then take those samples to computer for editing in other programs
if you want. Save them back to usb stick/thumb drive and bring
it back to 4000 and load from usb stick/thumb drive.

I've gotten away from cd's years ago.

I can also do the SAME as above with this (I have this exact LEXAR MCD (I have one
512mb CF card also) and SANDISK usb stick (32gb) below and use them on my 4k
all the time). LEXAR uses the exact same usb cable as PS3 controllers.

USB stick and this LEXAR are hot swap and can be plugged in/out at any time with mpc on or off.

The 4k USB front port is your BEST friend.
